Mountain Aura Crystals

Epidote usually occurs as a muddy green to a greenish black color and is a calcium aluminium iron borosilicate mineral. It is a product of hydrothermal alteration of various minerals (Feldspars, Micas, Pyroxenes, Amphiboles, Garnets, and others) composing igneous rocks (ex. mineral deposits occurring in conjunction with ancient hot water vents under water or at pegmatites). Its colors can vary between pistachio-green, yellow-green, greenish black, brownish-green, green and black. Named in 1801 by Rene Just Haüy from the Greek translation “epidosis”, meaning “increase”, in allusion to the crystal characteristic of one longer side at the base of the prism.
