Mountain Aura Crystals

Rainbow Moonstone, also known as White Labradorite, is actually a variety of Labradorite that shows blue flashes and rainbows throughout. The name “Rainbow Moonstone” was coined by the mineral community to describe this stone, even though calling it a Moonstone is inaccurate. True Moonstone is orthoclase (potassium feldspar), rather than labradorite (plagioclase feldspar). Though these two are related, they are not the same material. The reason for Rainbow Moonstone being referred to as “moonstone” is due to its flash, which according to some deems it worthy of the name. However, the flash of Rainbow Moonstone is caused by the same phenomenon as labradorite (reflection from twinning planes), where the true orthoclase moonstone gets its unusual flash from albite inclusions.
