Mountain Aura Crystals

Howlite is a borate mineral found in evaporite deposits that has a base color of white with blackish grey veining. Howlite was first discovered near Windsor, Nova Scotia in 1868 by Canadian Henry How. How was alerted to the unknown mineral by miners in a quarry, who found it to be a nuisance while mining for gypsum. He called the new mineral silico-boro-calcite; however, with that being a mouthful, it was given the name howlite shortly after using the reference to his name. Howlite is water safe but should not be left for extended periods in water. Howlite is soluble in acids.
