Mountain Aura Crystals

Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz ranging in the color spectrum from peach to dark violet. The name comes from the Greek “amethystos” from a- (not) and methysko (intoxicate), a reference to the Ancient Grecian belief that drinking alcohol from vessels carved from Amethyst could protect the patron from getting drunk. Amethyst is sometimes layered with white Quartz and is known as Chevron Amethyst, and can also be found in combination with Cacoxenite, mixed with Citrine as Ametrine, or in rare cases, “rutilated” with Goethite. In Amethyst, It is not as much the clarity that makes the stone desirable so much as the richness of the color and authenticity. Amethyst can be easily altered via dyes, heat treating to increase intensity or alter coloring completely to Citrine (yellow). Finding unaltered rich purple specimens are more valuable than lighter purple specimens or specimens that have been altered or treated.
