Mountain Aura Crystals

Rutilated Quartz or Rutile Quartz is a variety of Quartz that contains needle-like (acicular) inclusions of rutile. It is mostly used for gemstones as it makes for stunning visual displays. These inclusions mostly look golden, but they also can look silver, copper, red or deep black. They can be distributed randomly or in bundles, which sometimes are arranged as a star-like pattern and can be sparse or dense enough to make the quartz body nearly opaque. In other crystals, inclusions often reduce the value of a crystal but in Rutile Quartz it is actually valued for the quality of its inclusions. To find a piece with great clarity and crisp needle formation, you can expect to pay a premium price. With unique colors, the piece will also increase in value. Quartz specimens with both Garden Quartz and Rutile are quite a treat visually. Rutile specimens can be altered or enhanced to attempt to increase their appearance, usually using gold dyes on light silver Rutile that does not appear easy to the human eye. To spot fakes, the outcome is generally identifiable by looking for Quartz fault/fracture lines as they will contain dye deposits of excess dye which will look excessively gold.
