Septarian is yellow and greyish brown mixture of Aragonite, Calcite and Limestone which has also been referred to as Dragons Egg, Thunder Egg or Dragonstone due to its appearance. On occaison it can also be found containing Barite or Siderite. It comes in many forms due to cutting and polishing but is found naturally in geode and nodule form. The name Septarian comes from the word “septaria” which means to have concretions having angular cavities or cracks. To break it down further, also the Latin “septum” meaning the dividing partition between tissues or cavities. These Septaria are generally Calcite filled cracks, giving Septarian its t distinctive look. Septarian stone formed around 50 to 70 million years ago, and are unique due to their cementing mixture of volcanic and organic Cretaceous material initially filling their cracks and crevices. Septarian are not water safe.
