Prehnite with Epidote

Though not actually a Zeolite, Prehnite is found alongside minerals classified as Zeolites in veins and cavities of basaltic rocks, and sometimes in granites. Epidote is a calcium aluminium iron borosilicate mineral and can be found as an inclusion in Prehnite causing needle like inclusions. Both together create a striking effect with their green and black display. Prehnite with Epidote’s colors can vary between pistachio-green, yellow-green, greenish black, brownish-green, and green and black. Named in 1801 from the Greek translation “epidosis”, meaning “increase”, due to the illusion that the crystal has a characteristic of one longer side at the base of the prism. Prehnite with Epidote can sometimes be found with botryoidal cavities which can make a specimen extra special.
