Info: Fenster quartz gets its name from the complex interior skeletal structure which has created many windows and chambers within the crystal. The name is derived from the German word “Fenster”, meaning window. The unique formation is caused by internal and external dissolution growth which is the result of unstable conditions during crystallization. Fenster has also been known to go by the names Elestial, Skeletal and/or Window Quartz. Fenster Quartz is a type of Elestial, but has a specific growth pattern that identifies it. The edges grew more quickly than the rest of the face, creating the appearance of triangular windows with raised borders. The liquid inclusions you may find in some Fenster specimens with “enhydro” inclusions are inclusions of liquid, air and on occasion, other material(s) and make a specimen more valuable. Another unique attribute to Fenster Quartz is the clay inclusions you can frequently find within your specimen, causing a muddy brown to orange color within.
