Info: Fluorite Is a multi-colored mineral form of calcium fluoride. It belongs to the class of halide minerals. It crystallizes in isometric cubic habits, although octahedral formations are also a very interesting form that Fluorite naturally creates. Pure fluorite is transparent, both in visible and ultraviolet light, but impurities usually make it a colorful mineral which is seen more commonly in greens and purples. Fluorite was named after the Latin word, fluere, meaning “to flow,” coming from Fluorite’s ability to act as a flux between metals. Fun fact: The fluoride in toothpaste is a product made using the mineral fluorite.
