Labradorite was first discovered in the late 1700’s in Labrador, Canada. Since then, deposits have been noted in Finland, Russia, Australia, Mexico, United States and Madagascar. It is said that according to Inuit legend, the northern lights were freed from Labradorite. Labradorite is classified as a plagioclase and “calcium sodium” feldspar; moonstone is an orthoclase and “potassium sodium” feldspar. This is why moonstone and labradorite are “sister” stones… they are in the same family (feldspar) but gemologically they are different. Labradorite has also gone by the name Spectrolite.

As bold as the northern lights, so is this stone. This is a stone of steady transformation and trust. Like a good wingman, it may banish insecurities and fears as well as calming the mind. It can also promote a better understanding of higher consciousness and how to connect with yourself on a deeper level. If you want to connect with your intentions, this is the stone to promote just that! Just a warning though, this stone’s flash is so beautiful to look at, you might need bigger pockets because you’ll want to take it everywhere.
