Info: Moss agate is an interesting form of chalcedony which has green, forest-like inclusions, forming filaments and other patterns which look similar to tree moss (hence the name). The main stone is a clear or milky-white Quartz, and the inclusions (green filaments) are mainly oxides of Manganese or Iron. It is not a true form of agate, as it lacks agate’s defining feature of concentric banding. Moss Agate tends to increase in value when its base is translucent and filaments can be viewed from all sides unobstructed. Moss Agate makes a stunning feature stone in jewelry and is making a real splash on the handcrafted fine jewelry scene. Moss Agate can be found with botryoidal and drusy caverns which make this stone both interesting to look at and a great stone to add to the collection.
