Info: Rio Grande Citrine is a type of Quartz that originates from Brazil but is in fact often heat treated Amethyst. Citrine is a crystal that is well known due to its upbeat metaphysical energy and spiritual properties making it a crowd fav. Did you know however that roughly 90% of the Citrine available for sale is actually heat treated Amethyst, or “created” Citrine? To create heat treated Citrine, an Amethyst crystal is baked at 800-900 degrees F, which changes its colour from purple to varying shades of orange and yellow, depending on how long it is heated for, however white areas on Amethyst generally stay white, unlike natural Citrine. This creates an obvious tell tale sign it is heat treated Amethyst, but also creates a beautiful gradient coloring on your specimen. This heat replicates the same process taken within the earth to create the color in Citrine, just in a much shorter man-made process. Heat treated Citrine is very similar metaphysically to natural Citrine and due to this, maintains the same metaphysical properties as natural Citrine. Natural Citrine generally has a smoky golden or lighter yellow color than treated Citrine. Citrine is water safe.
