Info: Ruby is a reddish pink to brown colour of Corundum and is most commonly found as opaque crystals but higher quality specimens will be more translucent. Red corundum is called “Ruby” however pinkish Ruby can also be called “pink Sapphire”, blue corundum is called “blue Sapphire”, and all other colours are called “fancy Sapphires”. When Chromium is present in Corundum it makes the mineral fluorescent under UV light. Ruby is listed as one of the four precious gemstones and one of the hardest gemstones, being a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. Rubies are often used in medical devices, lasers and other devices we use in our daily life. A high-quality Ruby can be more valuable than a diamond. Rubies are water safe.
