Info: Sodalite is named after its sodium content and is a part of the group of minerals known as the feldspathoid group. Well known for its blue color, Sodalite also comes in other colors such as grey, yellow, green, or pink and is often covered with white veins or patches. Although it looks somewhat similar to Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite rarely contains Pyrite which is a common characteristic in Lapis Lazuli. First discovered by Europeans in 1811 in Greenland, Sodalite did not become an important stone until 1891 when vast deposits of fine material were discovered in Ontario, Canada. There has been a recent discovery of a new type of Sodalite called Yooperlite which is UV reactive, which is not blue. Sodalite has a waxy lustre. Sodalite has no known toxins but is soluble in acids.
